Groundwater doesn’t exist in isolation—it’s closely tied to rivers, lakes, and other surface water. When too much groundwater is pumped, it can lower nearby surface water levels.![]()

Once water enters the ground, it doesn’t stay in one place. It moves through spaces between rocks, sand, and soil, gradually collecting underground. These hidden pathways allow groundwater to travel and be stored over time.![]()
